Setup

You only need to turn Gemini Nano on once. The app also walks you through these steps.

  1. 1

    Use Chrome 138 or later

Desktop Chrome is required. 8 GB of RAM or more and about 22 GB of free disk space are recommended.

  2. 2

Turn on the Prompt API flag

Set the option to Enabled at chrome://flags/#prompt-api-for-gemini-nano.

  3. 3

    Enable the on-device model

    Choose Enabled BypassPerfRequirement at chrome://flags/#optimization-guide-on-device-model.

  4. 4

    Restart Chrome

On chrome://components, check for updates for Optimization Guide On Device Model.

  5. 5

Press the Nano button in the app

The model downloads on first use and then works offline too.

If Gemini Nano is not supported, the AI buttons show setup help; every other feature keeps working.
